The journey

We depart from Tromsø at noon and set out on a quest to find Northern Light and whales. We will sail into the deep and hidden fjords surrounding Tromsø, visiting small fishing villages and beautiful anchor spots on the search for Orcas, humpback whales, and northern light. During the day we sail from one magnificent fjord to another other, underway we will go wildlife spotting, for white-tailed eagle, fishing, and eventually take a cold dip in the water followed by a visit to the Sauna. We will go ashore with the zodiacs, and go for an afternoon hike in the snow-covered landscape.

Abundant Wildlife

A quite unique opportunity to experience Orcas, humpback whales, white-tailed eagles, Arctic winter, Northern Lights, and breathtaking landscapes altogether. This time of year, the arctic marine wildlife biodiversity is booming. As the Atlantic Herring migrate into the deep fjords to overwinter at the beginning of November, their arrival attracts all kinds of wildlife. From Humpback whales and Orca's hunting and feeding from beneath to big bird flocks, all aiming to get their piece of the enormous herring population. Very abundant wildlife to experience in one single place.

Practical information

  • You will fly in and out from the airport in Tromsø. We recommend spending a day or two in Tromsø, either before or after the tour with Linden. There is a wide range of accommodation opportunities as well as activities to do in Tromsø. You will meet Linden, at the harbor an hour before departure. You are required to carry a valid passport, and some nationalities require a visa in advance to enter Norway. Please check visa, COVID-19 vaccination, and immigration requirements.

S/V Linden will be insured under a policy of marine insurance and SAR insurance, but we require you to arrange your own travel insurance before departure.

In case of arrival by flight Thursday evening, accommodation onboard and breakfast can be arranged for an additional 1000 NOK per cabin.

Tromsø Airport Langnes is located approximately 5 km from the city center and harbor where you will board S/V Linden. There are more than 10 daily flights from Oslo to Tromsø. The flight time is approximately 1 hour 40 minutes.

    Domestic flights:
SAS, Flyr, Widerøe, and Norwegian offer direct flights to Tromsø from many destinations in Norway.

    International flights:
Most departures to Tromsø require changing to connecting flights in Oslo. There are seasonal direct flights from cities such as London (Gatwick), Oulu/Luleå, Copenhagen, and Stockholm.

  • Summer in the Arctic is very unpredictable. It can be sunny and 10 degrees celsius, and suddenly the weather can change to be minus 5 degrees Celsius (feels like -10) with cold winds and snow furries. We usually say that you will experience all 4 seasons during the duration of the trip. Clothing-wise, we recommend that you follow the 3 layer principle, starting with a solid wool layer closest to the body, adding another layer with a warm sweater or fleece, and some outdoor trousers. And a final layer of water and windproof layer of jacket and trousers. Some good quality wool socks, waterproof mittens or gloves, and a warm beanie or hat.

We recommend bringing the following equipment.

    • Camera

    • A good pair of binoculars (they will quickly become your best friend)

    • Sunglasses (the sun can be very sharp)

    • A trekking pole is nice to have, but not a need to have.

    • Hiking boots or warm waterproof rubber boots.

    • Water-resistant or waterproof backpack or similar for carrying cameras and equipment during landings. Alternatively, a plastic bag inside a traditional backpack will do the job.

    • Lip balm and hand lotion. Your skin tend to dry out in cold and dry air.

There will be down suits free to your disposal onboard.

  • We offer 2 payment methods.

    • Bank Transfer (contact us for more information)

    • Credit card via our secure “Booking” website

A deposit of 25% of the cost is required to make a reservation. The remaining balance must be paid not less than 90 days prior to the departure date. If a booking is made less than 90 days prior to the departure date, the full amount is payable on making a reservation.

At the moment you cannot pay a 25% deposit on our website, but only the full amount. We are working on solving this, so please send an email to inquiries@sv-linden.com with information about which tour and how many spots you wish to book, and we will send you a secure payment link, where you can pay the deposit.
