Sea to summit on untouched mountains

Get the best of both worlds, astonishing untouched powder slopes and experience magnificent beauty while sailing from mountain to mountain in the deep fjords of northern Norway. This tour is for those who are looking for an adventurous, challenging, and unique skiing experience. You will ascend the mountains with radonnee skis and ski down from the summit to the sea. We will sail to new spots in the fjords each day, where you will ascend and ski a new mountain top. This tour is for those who are looking for an adventurous, challenging, and unique skiing experience.

What to expect

The ascension will be planned accordingly to the skiing skill level of the group, weather, and snow conditions. This tour will require some experience with backcountry ski touring and you need to bring your equipment. Avalanche equipment (beacon, shovel, probe - can be rented on board if needed, 300 NOK pr day, limited amounts)

We will give a thorough safety introduction and assessment the first day as well as a safety check on all equipment before every ascent.

If you are an experienced backcountry skier, then you will be able to go out on your own, as long as it fits the general program. If you are less experienced, then you will be able to go on a planned tour with our ski guide, that will take care of you.

Practical Information

  • You will fly in and out from the airport in Tromsø. We recommend spending a day or two in Tromsø, either before or after the tour with Linden. There is a wide range of accommodation opportunities as well as activities to do in Tromsø. You will meet Linden, at the harbor an hour before departure. You are required to carry a valid passport, and some nationalities require a visa in advance to enter Norway. Please check visa, COVID-19 vaccination, and immigration requirements.

S/V Linden will be insured under a policy of marine insurance and SAR insurance, but we require you to arrange your own travel insurance before departure.

    Flying to Tromsø:
Tromsø Airport Langnes is located approximately 5 km from the city center and harbor where you will board S/V Linden. There are more than 10 daily flights from Oslo to Tromsø. The flight time is approximately 1 hour 40 minutes.

    Domestic flights:
SAS, Flyr, Widerøe, and Norwegian offer direct flights to Tromsø from many destinations in Norway.

    International flights:
Most departures to Tromsø require changing to connecting flights in Oslo. There are seasonal direct flights from cities such as London (Gatwick), Oulu/Luleå, Copenhagen, and Stockholm.

  • Linden will not provide skiing gear. Bringing the necessary skiing and avalanche safety equipment is the guest's responsibility. Tromsø has a lot of rental shops with high-quality randonee gear and we are glad to help you sort out rental gear for the trip.

The weather can change fast, so expect the worst. Clothing-wise, we recommend that you follow the 3 layer principle, starting with a solid wool layer closest to the body, adding another layer with a warm sweater or fleece, and some outdoor trousers. And a final layer of water and a windproof layer of jacket and trousers. Some good quality wool socks, waterproof mittens or gloves, and a warm beanie or hat. There will be warm thermal suits free to your disposal onboard.

We recommend bringing the following equipment for being on the ship:

    • A good pair of binoculars (they will quickly become your best friend)

    • Camera

    • Some warm winter boots

    • Warm gloves/mittens

    • Warm hat or beanie

    • Water-resistant or waterproof backpack or similar for carrying cameras and equipment during landings. Alternatively, a plastic bag inside a traditional backpack will do the job.

    • Lip balm and hand lotion. Your skin tends to dry out in cold and dry air

    • Equipment to bring for skiing:

    • Randonee skis with touring bindings and skins

    • Ski boots fit for touring

    • Poles preferably adjustable

    • Avalanche equipment (beacon, shovel, probe - can be rented on board if needed, 300 NOK pr day, limited amounts)

    • Extra layers of warm clothes, space blankets, foam sitting mats, and whatever else you like to bring on ski touring trips.

Don’t hesitate to contact us if in any doubt in regards to equipment to bring for the ski & sail trips.

  • We offer 2 payment methods.

    • Bank Transfer (contact us for more information)

    • Credit card via our secure “Booking” website

A deposit of 25% of the cost is required to make a reservation. The remaining balance must be paid not less than 90 days prior to the departure date. If a booking is made less than 90 days prior to the departure date, the full amount is payable on making a reservation.

At the moment you cannot pay a 25% deposit on our website, but only the full amount. We are working on solving this, so please send an email to inquiries@sv-linden.com with information about which tour and how many spots you wish to book, and we will send you a secure payment link, where you can pay the deposit.
